This artwork is a many-layered story from multiple perspectives.
The title is self-explanatory from any view-point, but I hope it raises a chain of questions and thought that will provoke productive change….and hope..
It is a reaction to a recent horrific crime during the lockdown and a reminder of incidents that shook the nation in senseless, shocking violence to women….how it feels when something sickening as a rape happens to someone just like you, your sister, daughter, or mother, friend….the environment of collective unease, pain, anger, shock and fear we live in and are used to, … that it may have easily been you or yours but for..,…how it feels to be part of a degenerative social set-up which is degrading and detrimental to its women.
Of how the most common places,and spaces are the most unsafe for women in this country .
For reasons that only begin with gender….
We profess lofty change like ‘beti padhao’ but fail to promise safety and an education without prejudices to our children.
It is an effort to express, that in these technologically progressive times, that our mindsets continue to remain pathetically regressive . And dismissive to the fundamental rights of respect and equality of all .That the legacy we pass on collectively to our boys and girls is a shamefully sick framework and value-system.
